Job Description:

Entity:     Foreign Trade – Group Operations – Infrastructure Services
Direct Supervisor:    Head of Import & Export L/Cs

Job Purpose Summary:

  • The incumbent will process Export Letters of Credit in accordance with international rules and regulations in a way that supports the business units and ensures a good working relationship with the Group’s clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities by Dimensions:

A.    Shareholder & Financial:
-    None.

B.    Customer (Internal & External):
-    Liaise with internal and external clients in order to meet their needs in a timely and accurate manner.
-    Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with all the other related departments to achieve the Group’s goals/ objectives.

C.    Internal (Processes, Products, Regulatory):
-    Accurately process ordinary transactions relating to advising, amendment and cancellation of Export Letters of Credit and ensure work accomplishment in strict compliance with International Chamber of Commerce Rules and Group’s policies and procedures.
-    Input transactions for advising, confirmation, amendment and cancellation of Export Letters of Credit on a timely basis.
-    Settle value of documents, sight, usance, in same value dates ensuring full funding coverage with FX, Treasury and Credit Department to avoid loss due to delay of payment interest.
-    Advise and add confirmation to certain export letters of credit that include special terms and conditions such as Oil and Gas transactions.
-    Prepare vouchers for commissions, charges and contingent liabilities.
-    Deal with clients on routine operational issues for advising of Export Letters of Credit and handling of documents. Dispatch export letters of credit and related documents to clients and Banks.
-    Communicate with Banks by Swifts/ Telexes for transactions relating to Export Letters of Credit. Release negotiated documents to correspondent Banks.
-    Provide periodical reports of opened and outstanding Export L/C to the Head of Import & Export L/Cs for him to monitor the workflow.
-    Prepare and submit reports to the Head of Import & Export L/Cs to monitor workflow and income in addition to the monthly and quarterly reports.

D.    Learning & Knowledge:
-    Keep abreast of changes in International Chamber of Commerce/ relevant UCP rules pertaining to Export Letter of Credit.

E.    Other:
-    Ensure high standards of confidentiality to safeguard commercially sensitive information.

Operating Environment/ Location:
-    Located in Qatar.

Framework and Boundaries:

-    Group’s overall strategic plan.
-    Budgetary/ scorecard targets.
-    Applicable policies and procedures.
-    Relevant regulatory pronouncements of applicable local and international regulators and related best practices (including the various rules pertaining to documentary credits).
-    Delegated authorities as per the delegation of authority structure.

Communications and Working Relationships:
-    Divisional and departmental officers of Retail Banking, Islamic Banking, Corporate Banking and other related departmental officers.
-    Centralized Helpdesk function to resolve system related/ other issues.
-    Correspondent banks situated in other countries to follow-up on specific foreign trade related transactions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
-    None.

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • University graduate in Business, Finance or Accounting.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in Export Letters of Credit.

Required Special Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic conditions/Terms and procedures, International Chamber of Commerce Rules (UCP 600).
  • Must have loan servicing industry experience.
  • Thorough understanding of letters of credit concepts.
  • General understanding of lending principles.
  • Computer proficient and knowledge of MS Office applications, bank and database applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (and Arabic preferably).
  • Must be detailed and multi-task oriented.
